Health

Medical Insurance
Walker has a self-insured medical plan with Medica. Employees may select providers in or out of the Medica network. Out-of-pocket maximums are low and there are no annual deductibles if employees stay within the network. Dependent coverage is also available. Walker pays a large portion of the health insurance premium with the balance being deducted from two paychecks per month on a pre-tax basis.

Dental Insurance
Walker offers flexible dental insurance options with Delta Dental of MN. Employees may choose to go to a dentist under the DeltaPreferred Option, DeltaPremier Option or their own out-of-network dentist. However, DeltaPreferred Option gives employees a choice of participating dentists with a lower fee schedule than the DeltaPremier Option or out-of-network provider. Dependent coverage is available under all options. Walker pays a portion of the dental insurance premium with the balance being deducted from two paychecks per month on a pre-tax basis.

Prescription Plan
Walker offers a money-saving option through a mail order prescription plan.

Flexible Spending Accounts
Eligible employees may participate in the Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA’s) for daycare reimbursement as well as for medical and dental expenses not covered by insurance coverage. Participation in this pre-tax plan will increase take-home pay.

Paid Time Off

Flex Hours
Eligible new employees start earning (accruing) flex hours immediately. Sick and vacation time are placed into one account, the “Flex Hours” account. Flex hours are accrued based on number of hours worked and eligible to be used after six months of continuous employment.

Holiday Pay
Six paid holidays are offered to eligible employees.

Financial Security

Life Insurance
After 60 days, then the 1st of the following month of service, free life insurance is provided to Walker employees regularly scheduled and work at least 20 hours per week. Basic, Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurances are provided by Walker. Additional coverage for employees as well as for their spouses and/or dependents are available for qualified employees.

Long-Term Disability Benefit
Employees are offered an option to purchase a Long-Term Disability Benefit.

Retirement Savings Plan
Most commonly known as a 401(K) Plan, this is a voluntary pre-tax retirement savings plan. Employees may contribute up to the lesser of (a) 100% of their compensation into this plan (less any mandatory or elective salary reductions, payroll deductions, or tax withholding) or (b) the maximum amount determined for each year.

Tax Sheltered Annuity (TSA)
Employees may participate in the TSA plan by making contributions to their account on a pre-tax basis. A variety of investment options are available. New employees are eligible to participate on the first day of their employment.

529 College Savings Program
The MN 529 College Savings Program allows employees to save money for higher education expenses for themselves or their child.

Educational Aid

Tuition Reimbursement
Full-time and regular part-time employees pursuing “degreed” course work relevant to their current positions are eligible to request tuition reimbursement for pre-approved classes which started after their first six months of employment. Full-time employees may qualify for up to four credits per term and regular part-time employees may qualify for up to two credits per term. The reimbursement rate is based on comparable course rates at the University of Minnesota.

Nursing Scholarship

Continuing Education
Nursing professionals may earn free Continuing Education Credit Hours by participating in a variety of training opportunities conducted on-site, off-site and through self-study modules. All sessions are taught by highly-skilled educators. Some of the sessions include:

Student Loan Repayment Program
Full-time nurses who work at Walker for at least six months may be eligible to participate in the Student Loan Repayment Program.
