Continuing Care Retirement Community

There are more options for senior living today than ever before.
What do you need to know before you make a decision?

As an active senior, you are probably enjoying life, and the need for future health services may not be your first concern. But, the facts show that health care, supportive services, happiness through interaction with others, and peace of mind for the future should be priorities as you look for a senior living community.

Will your current home meet your needs tomorrow? Studies indicate that one out of two people who are in their 80s requires help with the activities of daily living. Seniors who are “planners” will look for a senior living community that has the ability to meet future health needs—which will enable them to maintain their independence as they age.

What is a CCRC?
A Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) provides senior housing, health services, and nursing care on one campus where residents can receive the health care they may need today or in the future. Residents move into an independent living apartment, where they have the services and amenities to suit them today. If higher levels of care are required, residents may receive services in their own apartment. If skilled nursing is required, the nursing center is on-site and residents have priority access to care. CCRCs are an attractive option for couples with differing health needs. Those who choose to live in a CCRC understand that wellness is a way of life. CCRCs offer a variety of programs and services to help each person remain in the best health possible.

All levels of senior living on one campus

A CCRC offers all levels of senior living, all on one campus:

The advantages of having all levels of senior living available? You continue to live on one campus, should you ever require any of the higher levels of care. Those who do not live in a CCRC are often forced to move to another community, maybe across town or to another town, if they need more care. This can be extremely painful and disruptive, especially if the individual has to be separated from a spouse or family.

A CCRC is a wise investment
You have been a wise steward of your finances all your life. Continue to protect your lifestyle and conserve your resources. A CCRC like Walker Place is an entrance fee community. Depending on which option you choose, the entrance fee is 90% or 100% returned to you or your estate when the apartment has been reoccupied.

Walker Place is more affordable than you might think. Most people use a portion of the sale of their home for the entrance fee. The rest is saved in their bank account.
The entrance fee at a CCRC allows the monthly service fee to be lower—less than you are probably paying in your own home! The monthly service fee includes rent, utilities, maintenance, housekeeping, scheduled transportation, activities, emergency response system, and staff on-hand 24-hours daily. In addition, each apartment receives $200 Flex Dollars for services such as fine dining, deli purchases, health services and others.

The entrance fee also alleviates any complications your family may have in selling your home if you are unable to do so yourself. Plus, your assets are protected against depreciation and you’ll enjoy specific tax advantages.

Invest in your future
Walker Place, as a CCRC, is ideal for couples with differing health needs. You’ll have the security of knowing that health services are available on one campus, so the two of you can stay together.

Living at Walker Place also gives you the security of knowing rehabilitation services are right through the connecting hallway at Walker Methodist Health Center. If you ever need therapy, you won’t have to move to another community. If skilled nursing care is needed, Walker Place residents are entitled to priority access to Walker Methodist Health Center.

You’ll be assured that your investment in your senior lifestyle remains intact, now and into the future. Walker Place is a member of the Walker Methodist family of senior services, a locally-owned, faith-based, non-profit organization serving seniors since 1945.

The people who live at Walker Place worked hard yesterday, are living well today, and are anticipating tomorrow. You, too, can benefit from CCRC living at Walker Place, and from the peace of mind knowing you have a wise plan for your future.
